LAHAD DATU: Two men were rescued after their pump boat caught fire off Lahad Datu waters on Saturday, thanks to the quick action of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali said the agency’s patrol boat was returning to the Lahad Datu Fishery jetty after an operation when they noticed the vessel ablaze near Telukan waters.
He said the team immediately responded to control the flames and ensure both individuals, identified as Ishara Mansor and Mizfar, were safe.
The fire was brought under control and the damaged pump boat was towed to the Lahad Datu Fishery jetty for further investigation.
Dzulfikhar reminded boat operators to regularly inspect their vessels, particularly the engines, wiring, and fuel systems, to prevent such incidents.
