It is almost like a default setting in our minds to blame the parents when a kid misbehaves. Sure, that is true, because a child is still developing, and as guardians, the parents must always provide them with good modeling and teachings to go by. But what if the ‘child’ is no longer in the childhood age group, should the parents still be blamed for the upbringing he or she had as a kid?
As kids grow older, and venture through the adulthood phase, it is their responsibility and job to know how to differentiate between what’s right and what’s wrong, and to decide what to do or what not to do. Parents can only do so much, especially when the son or daughter has a mind of his or her own. They of course want the best for their kids but what are the odds if the kids were to choose a route that is 360 degrees different from what’s been taught at home? A father could be a disciplined police officer and the son could still be a burglar if that is what he chooses to be. The mother could be a well-established English journo and it is not impossible for the daughter to not be able to speak good English or get good grades if that is not what she fancies…
Though we should all be grateful for what our parents taught us in the past years of our lives, especially when it comes to taking care of the house, cooking, cleaning, etc., however, without the will to listen, understand and observe, the things they taught us wouldn't have made that much of a difference.
Parents are the role models for their kids. However, when the kids become adults, they ought to find themselves and discover the purpose of their own lives. If one was raised in a pure Christian household guided by their religious parents, along with siblings who are alike, there is always a chance of the person coming out of that household and leaving the teachings behind as they choose another belief system to go by or to choose no organised religion at all. That is totally their own choice. The parents should not be blamed nor should they be credited for all the good and bad doings of their kids. The kids are all grown up and have developed the ability to alter life according to their understandings and beliefs, based on their own knowledge and experience.
