How do I make my articles more engaging?

Here are some tips you can follow to make your article more engaging:

1. Topic selection

While you have the choice to write about any topic, we've found that articles related to current affairs, lifestyle, and opinion pieces tend to perform well on our platform.

Alternatively, if you have a niche area of expertise, writing about it can help you establish yourself as an authority in your industry, and grow your personal brand and following.

2. Word count

The maximum word limit is 2,000 words. Please ensure that your content adheres to this restriction. Any content exceeding the word count will not be able to be submitted.

Nonetheless, do make sure that you meet the minimum requirement of 300 words.

3. Visual appeal

Including relevant images can break up long blocks of text and make your article more readable and engaging. Be sure to choose images that are high quality and relevant to your content. Some popular websites that offer free stock images include Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay and Freepik.

You’re also free to use original images (taken by yourself) or infographics/ charts to support your content.

4. Referencing

References provide credibility to your writing and allow readers to check the source of your information. For a complete referencing guideline, please see below.

Referencing guideline

Here are some common questions about adding references in your article:

1. When do I need to add a reference?

Always include a reference in your article when you:

(a) Provide a direct quotation

(b) Use statistical or other data

(c) Provide information that are not common knowledge (eg. scientific facts, medical information)

Note: All factual statements, quotes, and claims must be properly linked within the relevant sentences to ensure accuracy and credibility.

🆕All creators must hyperlink each sentence requiring a source or reference, as providing sources only at the end of the article is insufficient and will result in rejection.

2. How do I add a reference?

The easiest way to add a reference into your article is via hyperlinks. Here’s how to do it:

(a) Copy the web link of the source you want to reference

(b) Highlight the text that you want to turn into a hyperlink

(c) Click the 🔗 Link icon or press Ctrl+K on your keyboard

(d) Insert the web link into the URL box

(e) Press Enter on your keyboard or click the Tick button

(f) The hyperlinked text will be displayed in red and underlined

Alternatively, you may include a traditional citation or reference list at the end of your article if that is the method you’re familiar with.

3. Can I cite Wikipedia as my reference?

Wikipedia is generally not considered a reliable source for academic or research purposes. It is recommended that you use more credible and authoritative sources, such as reputable news websites.
