My experience.
I remember a time in my life (30 years ago) when I was under such tremendous agony and stress that I actually experienced an OBE (Out- of Body Experience).
This is a true story.
My wife delivered a baby girl and the doctor said she had Down Syndrome.
That revelation plunged me straight into depression. My sister and a group of supporters from the church came and prayed for me. And it was during the prayers (which was intense) that I had the most surrealistic experience.
I left my body and floated into the air. I thought I was hallucinating, but it was real.
My conscience (or soul) actually left my physical body and floated towards the ceiling of the room. I could see and hear the people praying below me, but no one knew what happened to me. Everything lighted up like a big ball of light.
I felt peace and tranquility. My stress gone and it was as though I was connected to God. I was happy up there.
Suddenly when the prayers ended I descended back into my body. I couldn't fathom what happened.
Did I die or was it an NDE (Near Death Experience)?
Until today I still cannot understand why it happened.
Is Soul Real?
This OBE (Out- Of- Body Experience) had me searching for an answer all these years. Now that we have AI and the Internet, I found out that there are cases of others in the world who shared similar experiences like mine.
Body. Mind. Soul. Spirit.
This supposedly make up a human- us.
What I experienced was the ‘Spirit' part or soul. This is the non physical part supposedly connected to the divine. It can fly out of your body after death. There are recorded cases of intense brain activity of patients immediately after death during surgery.
There are also various views and schools of thought as regards to the concept of a soul.
So, do we actually have souls?
Yes.
According to this neuroscientist ( link above), humans do have souls. Animals also have souls, but human soul is different.
Human soul is Spiritual Soul. Key difference is that humans have intellect and conscience whilst animals are instinctive.

Soul is immortal, immaterial. It is spiritual essence of a human being. It is distinct from the physical body and is the seat of our consciousness.
It has personality, intellect, emotions and willpower.
According to the Abrahamic faith it is the part that leaves the body after our death.
Where does the soul go?
For Abrahamic faith it goes to God's Judgement to determine the Afterlife. Either it's Heaven or Hell.
For Buddhism and Hinduism, it's Reincarnation.
For scientists - No.
Death is final. They believe when we die, it's the end of consciousness. No existence. Period.
Conclusion.
