Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says the club are aiming to "create big stars for the future".
The Austrian has been a revelation at St. Mary's since replacing Mark Hughes halfway through last season.
Speaking to The Sun, Hasenhuttl revealed Saints' plan to develop their young players rather than splurge on established stars.
He said: "We want to create big stars for the future.
"I think when you see the development of some players of my time, you see they reached a good level. I think they are now in the picture of a lot of clubs.
"We will never buy players for 30m or 40m. In the future that will not happen.
"We are looking for young players who give us a lot of fantasy in their development."
