Liverpool chief Peter Moore has lashed out at opposition fans for their "despicable" chants directed towards Scousers.

Moore says the people of Liverpool have an unfair reputation and are bogged down by negative stereotypes.

Speaking at Anfield during an event, Moore said: "We actually saw it this weekend at [Everton's ground] Goodison Park. They had a visit from Wolves.

"So I'm watching the game, and I'm hearing the usual despicable chants that really, really upset me - about bin dippers, and 'sign on', and 'you'll never work again' and all of those things that we have put behind us.

"Football brings out the worst in people. We hear it here at Anfield, we hear it when we travel, and we even hear it at some of the impoverished places in the UK that have worse situations than us.

"It's a stereotype that we often have to fight here."
