Tenom: About 1,000 varieties of plants, fruits, wild orchids and cultivated orchids are housed at the Sabah Agriculture Park in Lagud Seberang, offering visitors a glimpse of Sabah’s native flora.
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said some of Sabah’s indigenous fruits were becoming unfamiliar to the younger generation, with some not even knowing whether they were edible.
“Today, we are giving visitors the opportunity to know them better. Local orchids and indigenous fruits of Sabah are also displayed and collected here,” he said after launching the 2026 Indigenous Flower and Fruit Festival on Saturday.
Jamawi said the 10-day festival also features various activities and competitions, while 550 students from 12 schools around Tenom were participating in the programme.
He said the Sabah Agriculture Park and Sabah Agriculture Department had been asked to intensify promotion of the park, which enables visitors to see a wide variety of native orchids and plants without having to venture into different forest ecosystems.
