
TAWAU: Police arrested two suspected drug dealers and seized from them 1.03kg of Syabu, estimated to be worth RM60,000, in a early morning raid in the town area, here, on Tuesday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said a team from the Tawau IPD Narcotics Crime Investigation Division confiscated a bag held by one of the suspects in the 4.30am raid.
“An inspection of the bag revealed a transparent plastic package containing suspected Syabu weighing 1,033.30gm. This was the third seizure of drugs of more than a kilogramme in the district this year,” he told a press conference, Wednesday.
He said one of the two foreigners, aged 43 and 39, was found to be positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
“The drugs are believed to be for the local market and could be used by 2,000 addicts,” he said, adding they also confiscated a Honda Civic, believed used for drug trafficking, under Section 25(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Property Forfeiture) Act 1988.
Jasmin said the suspects who had no criminal records were currently being remanded for seven days and the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death penalty on conviction.
“We are investigating also if the case is related to the drug distribution network in the district and surrounding areas, as well as the source of the drug,” he added.
