1,119 to receive awards in conjunction with Penang governor’s 74th birthday

GEORGE TOWN – A civil servant, a judge and a corporate executive lead the list of 1,119 recipients for the 74th birthday celebrations of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak here.

The investiture ceremony, which was postponed from August to today due to the state election, would be held over the coming week at the Dewan Sri Pinang auditorium here.

State Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang told a press conference here that Datuk Zulkapli Mohamed, the public services department director-general, would be awarded the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which carries the title of Datuk Seri.

DPPN is among the highest awards bestowed by the state.

High court justice Datuk Seri Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah would also be awarded the DPPN with Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Idera Baharin Din.

This is followed by a number of politicians, who would be awarded the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), which also carries the Datuk Seri recognition.

They are former PKR deputy chief minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abd Rahman, Umno’s Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, former PKR state speaker Datuk Abdul Halim Hussein, former DAP Sg Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh, former Wanita DAP head Chong Eng.

Others receiving the DGPN include state secretary Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Bukit Aman CID division director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, veteran community and corporate leader Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Murtaza, economist Datuk Md Hamzah Md Kassim, corporate leader Datuk Vaseehar Hassan Abdul Razack, entrepreneur Datuk Joseph Kow Hock Beng, Asas Dunia Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Jerry Chan Fook Sing, property developer Datuk Khor Chong Hai, fire and rescue department director-general Datuk Abdul Wahab Mat Yasin.

Penang Hindu Endowment Board commissioner Datuk S. Parthiban is among 15 recipients who received the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DNPN), which carries the title of Datuk.

The ceremonies to bestow the awards and medals would be held over a four-day period from today, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Former state executive councillor Soon Lip Chee is to be bestowed with the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negri (DSPN) while veteran hotelier Tunku Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman also receives the same title, which is a Datukship. – The Vibes, October 14, 2023
