
TAWAU: Seven men including two civil servants were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here, with trafficking 1,177.5gm of syabu and having 103.04gm also Syabu.
Rizal Ramli, 34, a soldier and Mohd Hairul Kaz Oto, 36, a personnel of General Operations Force (PGA) were charged with trafficking the drug at 12.30am on March 21 this year at the Marco Polo Hotel area in Lorong Abaca 1, here.
Meanwhile, the other five accused, namely Azalan Hasanuddin, 34, Radi Etma Marzuki, 34, Zaini Paleksi, 59, Mohd Rosyidee Khamis, 30, and Mohd Nurhaq Amat, 29, were charged with possessing the 103.04gm at 2am on March 20 this year in Lorong 19, Taman Ria Heights, here.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with at least 15 lashes, on conviction.
However, no plea was recorded from all seven when the charges were read separately before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.
The court then set May 10 and May 16 next year for mention of the cases while waiting for the chemist’s report.
Azalan, Radi, Zaini, Mohd Rosyidee and Mohd Nurhaq were also facing a charge under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for taking the drug.
Prosecuting Officer ASP Jeffrey Kadisun, appeared for the prosecution while the seven were not represented.
