Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) confiscated 1,479 multi-capacity memory cards under the “SanDisk” brand believed to be counterfeit during a raid on four business premises, here, on July 26.

The seizure is estimated worth RM41, 376.50, according to KPDNHEP Sabah Director Georgie Abas. The case is being investigated under section 102 (1), (b) and (c) of the Trademark Act 2019, which is having in possession for the purpose of trading goods that the registered trademark is worn incorrectly.

The raid was carried out by two KPDNHEP enforcement teams comprising 10 officials and five representatives of the registered owners of the “SanDisk” trademark.

The four owners of the business premises may face up to RM10,000 fine for each item, or not more than three years’ jail, or both, upon conviction. For corporate bodies, the fine can be up to RM15,000 for each item, upon conviction.

Georgie said the Ministry would continue to enforce the law under the Trademark Act 2019 to combat the sale of counterfeit goods and piracy activities.
