The Panipat police have arrested a person for allegedly mowing down three friends with an SUV at Dikadla village on Wednesday late evening.
The accused has been identified as Manish of Dikadla village and he was nabbed from Patti Kalyana Road on Friday.
The deceased included Narender, Vinod and Aneep, all residents of Dikadla.
Virender Gahlayan, brother of Narender, stated in his complaint to the Samalkha police that he had received a call from a villager informing him that three men, including his brother, were critically injured.
Virender stated that Narender, who was still conscious despite suffering a head injury, told him that Manish, Sandeep, Ravinder, Navin, Tushar, Sachin, Neeraj, Rajbir, alias Raja of Dikadla, and Sooraj of Atta village had tried to kill him by ramming their vehicle due to an old enmity.
The complaint further stated that Narender believed the accused held a grudge against him as the mining authorities had earlier seized a trailer and dumper allegedly linked to Manish for illegal mining activities. According to an FIR, Narender had returned from Haridwar on Wednesday evening and later went for a walk with Vinod and Aneep. They were returning on Vinod’s scooter when an SUV (black-coloured Scorpio) rammed into them from behind. After they fell on the road, the accused assaulted them before fleeing.
The police had recovered the SUV used in the crime from a dhaba on the NH-44 on the same night. DSP Headquarters Satish Kumar Vats said the CIA-1 unit nabbed Manish of Dikadla from Patti Kalyana Road in the Samalkha area on Friday evening. During preliminary investigation, the accused accepted his involvement in the incident. The accused was produced before the court on Saturday, which remanded him in 10-day police custody. — TNS
