As someone who loves exploring new corners of Sabah, I can tell you there are countless hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Let’s uncover 10 lesser-known places in Sabah that will make you fall in love with the state all over again.

1. Koposizon Homestay, Penampang

Located just 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu, Koposizon Homestay offers an authentic Kadazan Dusun cultural experience. Visitors can try traditional activities like rice pounding, tasting local dishes such as linopot, and even learning how to make traditional rice wine (tapai). The peaceful village setting makes it a perfect quick escape from the city.

2. Tagal Sg. Moroli, Kampung Luanti (Ranau)

Not many know that this river is famous for its “fish spa.” When you dip your feet into the water, hundreds of fish will gently nibble at your skin it’s ticklish but oddly relaxing! The water is crystal clear, surrounded by lush greenery and calm vibes.

3. Bongawan Sunset Beach

If you want to catch a beautiful sunset without the city crowd, Bongawan Beach is a hidden paradise. It’s still largely untouched, offering peace and quiet with a wide stretch of golden sand. When the sun sets, the colors of the sky are simply magical.

4. Langanan Waterfall, Poring

One of the tallest waterfalls in Malaysia, yet surprisingly, not many have heard of it. Hidden deep inside Poring’s forest, the trek to Langanan Waterfall is a bit challenging, but once you reach it, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible view and refreshingly cool mist.

5. Mantanani Island, Kota Belud

This small island is truly a hidden paradise turquoise waters, soft white sand, and total serenity. You can snorkel, see clownfish up close, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a dugong!

6. Kipandi Butterfly Park, Moyog

A perfect spot for nature lovers. The park is home to many species of butterflies, beetles, and rare orchids found only in Sabah. It’s calm, colorful, and surprisingly under the radar not many tourists know about it yet.

7. Marlanggu Waterfall, Tambunan

Tambunan is known for its greenery, but Marlanggu Waterfall is one of its most peaceful treasures. Just a short walk from the main road, you’ll find a hidden waterfall cascading down smooth rocks, surrounded by cool forest air.

8. Bohey Dulang, Semporna

Though it’s gaining attention, many still don’t realize the real magic of Bohey Dulang is at the top. The short hike rewards you with a panoramic view of blue-green lagoons and coral islands it looks like something out of a painting.

9. Kampung Bavanggazo, Kudat

Here you’ll find a traditional longhouse of the Rungus community. Visitors can stay overnight, learn about local customs, and experience the warm hospitality of the locals. It’s cultural, authentic, and heartwarming.

10. Tinopikon Park, Penampang
