A BOY died after the car he was travelling in was hit by a four-wheel drive believed to be driven by an individual under the influence of drugs at Kilometre 29.4 of Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
In the incident at about 10.35 pm, the victim, Jayden Leong Zhi Yung, 10, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of a Perodua Bezza, was confirmed dead due to serious injuries.
The crash also left another 13-year-old passenger with head and leg injuries, while the driver of the car suffered minor injuries.
Kampar District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud, said initial investigations found that a four-wheel drive Toyota Hilux driven by a 44-year-old man from Ipoh to Kampar lost control before entering the opposite lane.
"The situation resulted in the vehicle crashing into the car the victim was travelling in and another Perodua Myvi car.
"The collision caused the boy to die on the spot, while two others were injured," he said in a statement today.
He said the driver of the Toyota Hilux and the driver of the Perodua Myvi, who is a 23-year-old male student, did not suffer any injuries.
However, he said the police have detained the Hilux driver for further investigation.
"A preliminary urine test found the driver to be positive for marijuana," he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"The victim's body has been sent to Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem, while the injured were also taken to the same hospital for treatment," he said. – May 2, 2026
