It’s the monsoon season and aside from flash floods, hilly areas also pose a threat as we shouldn’t rule landslides out of the possibilities.
Just this morning, the Selangor Fire & Rescue Department rushed to Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands after receiving a distress call about trapped victims at a campsite near the Father’s Organic Farm following a landslide. BERNAMA reported that a number of 100 victims are believed to be trapped there, and at the time of writing, 60 have been rescued and 2 victims were found dead, including a child, according to Astro Awani.
Rescue works have begun as early as 3 am and the director of the Selangor Fire & Rescue Department said that the landslide near the organic farm had fallen on a campsite close to the road.
PDRM, who was also at the scene has not confirmed the identities of the deceased. In the meantime, a number of 200 rescuers, including PDRM, firefighters, and officers of Civil Defense Forces (JPAM) are at the moment carrying on rescue works and are looking for remaining victims.
Our condolences to the family members of the deceased, and hopefully, the remaining victims will be rescued. Meanwhile, do be careful wherever you are at all times as the rainy season can be dangerous.
