10Star cinemas to start operations in Papar October

PAPAR: The 10Star Cinemas at Parklane City, Benoni, here would begin operations by October this year.

The last cinema in the district was closed down about decades ago.

WSG Group Managing Director, Datuk Susan Wong said the 10Star Cinemas building, completed last month, would undergo renovations for three months and will be opened to the public by end of September or early October.

She said the signing of agreement to build the cinema was sealed with WSG Group which also marked the construction of the building that started in June last year.

Read more “Construction of the cinema commenced a year ago after WSG Group signed the lease agreement with 10Star Cinemas. The building obtained its occupancy certificate (OC) recently. The 10Star Cinemas at Parklane City is scheduled to be operational by October.

“The 10Star Cinemas covers a total of 12,000 sq ft and will have nine halls in which six are cinema halls, including a VIP luxury hall, with another with a capacity of 140 seats, and four halls that occupy between 80 and 120 seats.

“The remaining three halls would be used for stores and toilets, marketing office and selling popcorn and kitchen area,” she said after handing over the keys of the cinema building to MAA Group Berhad Executive Chairman Tunku Dato’ Yaacob Khyra, which is the parent company of 10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd.

She said Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony of the cinema.

Susan and WSG Group Director Datuk Wong Ten An accompanied Yaacob to inspect the site of the cinema and briefed him on the development’s master plan.

She also proposed to MAA Group to set up a college at Parklane City for students in Papar to further their studies, to which Yaacob said he would consider.

Meanwhile, Susan said the 64 double-storey shoplots at Parklane City facing the cinema are expected to be ready by September while the two-storey terrace houses will apply for OC in September as well.

Furthermore, she said an A&W drive-thru will be established in Parklane City soon.

10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Onn Norshal Hamzah said the company is investing RM5 million in the cinema at Parklane City.

The cinema at Parklane City will be the company’s sixth in Sabah, after Tawau, Sandakan and another soon-to-be-opened in Kota Marudu.

Onn Norshal said the company plans to establish more cinemas in up to 18 locations throughout Sabah by next year.

Also present were WSG Group directors Vanessa Wong, Melissa Wong and Jonathan Wong.
