The new Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar will be sworn in before Tuanku Muhriz after BN-PN won two-thirds majority.

SEREMBAN: The 10th Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan is scheduled to be sworn in at Istana Besar Seri Menanti here today.

All attention is on the ceremony to appoint the state government’s chief administrator, after the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) yesterday resulted in a change in the political composition of the state Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The ceremony is scheduled for about 11am before the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, and state dignitaries. As of 9am, preparations were actively underway.

Yesterday’s PRN results saw Barisan Nasional (BN) secure 18 DUN seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 11, enabling the two coalitions to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.

Meanwhile, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi met Tuanku Muhriz at Istana Hinggap last night to present three names for the Menteri Besar position.

A total of 36 DUN seats were contested in this PRN, involving 103 candidates. In the 15th state election, Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 17 DUN seats, BN 14, and PN five, resulting in the PH-BN state government.

The DUN was dissolved on 5 June after BN Negeri Sembilan withdrew support from Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun on 27 April, leading to the PRN being held.
