Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized 11 luxury vehicles during a special enforcement operation dubbed “Ops Luxury” carried out statewide from June to September this year.

State JPJ Director Datuk Mohd Harris Ali said the operation targeted high-end vehicles committing offences under the Road Transport Act 1987, particularly those without valid motor vehicle licences (LKM) or insurance coverage.

Among the models detected were Bentley Continental, Lexus, Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Ford Ranger Raptor, BMW 320i, Ford Mustang, Nissan Skyline, Nissan Fairlady and Land Rover Defender.

“Action was taken against the owners, including issuing summonses and seizing vehicles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. This is to stop the offences from continuing until the owners rectify them,” he said in a statement.

Of the 11 vehicles, seven were seized in Kota Kinabalu, two in Tawau, one in Sandakan and one in Beaufort.

Harris advised vehicle owners across Sabah to ensure their vehicles are equipped with valid LKM and insurance to avoid enforcement action and to guarantee protection for themselves and other road users in the event of accidents.

He added that JPJ Sabah would continue its enforcement activities to ensure road users comply with all laws and regulations.

The department reiterated its reminder to motorists: “Pandu Cermat, Sampai Selamat.”
