11 Pakistanis held in Semporna: Some claim to have spouse visa pass

SEMPORNA: The Sabah Immigration Department detained 11 Pakistani men in an operation around the district, here.

The operations, code-named Ops Sapu, was led by the Semporna Immigration Enforcement Unit and accompanied by 12 enforcement personnel.

Sabah Immigration Director Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said the operation was carried out following the department’s intel and public tip-off.

Those arrested were investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act for residing in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit and Section 15(1)(c) for overstaying.

“Preliminary investigations found them claiming to have spouse visa pass (Pas Jaminan Pasangan) while one of them owned a Visitor’s Pass (Temporary Employment) or Pas Lawatan Kerja Sementara (PLKS) to work in Kota Kinabalu.

“However, all of them failed to produce any valid identification documents when inspected,” she said, adding that all those arrested were taken to Tawau Immigration Depot for documentation and further investigation.

In the meantime, the department has reaffirmed its commitment to consistent enforcement to combat the presence of illegal immigrants in this state.

The department also called on the public to report suspected undocumented migrants or employers hiring them.

She added that enforcement operations will continue to be carried out to detect, arrest, prosecute and deport foreigners who violate the law.
