
SEMPORNA: Local coastal communities here were empowered through a Sabah Community Environmental Leadership Camp (CELC) 2025 which concluded with the distribution of RM22,000 in community grants.
The programme culminated in a competitive project pitch where 11 teams secured funding of RM2,000 each to implement their environmental conservation projects.

“Seeing these committed individuals take charge of their environmental heritage shows the true spirit of community-driven conservation,” said Nurasikin Jajim, who coordinates programmes at Green Semporna.

Youth Environmental Living Labs Coordinator Lim Su Jin emphasised how the initiative strengthens local resilience against environmental challenges.
“The CELC project exemplifies how providing communities with leadership training and financial support can transform environmental stewardship,” Lim said. “These resources help build both expertise and community resilience,” Lim added.
AdvertisementParticipants shared their enthusiasm for implementing their new knowledge. “The connections forged here will strengthen our village’s conservation efforts,” said Abdul Rasyid, who travelled from Selakan Island to attend.
Intan Baljana from Kudat expressed excitement about applying newly acquired project management skills in her community. This leadership camp represents a strategic investment in environmental protection across Malaysia’s coastal areas.
