An 11-year-old girl has been hospitalized following a disturbing case of suspected child abuse involving her biological mother in Kangar, Perlis. Authorities confirmed the arrest of a 33-year-old woman believed to be responsible for the abuse, which allegedly involved the use of a pair of scissors.
The case came to light after a headmaster at a primary school in Jitra filed a police report last Tuesday. He became alarmed when the student arrived late to school and appeared visibly distressed. Upon closer examination, medical professionals discovered multiple wounds—bites and puncture marks—on the girl's back, neck, legs, and arms. These injuries were suspected to have been inflicted with a sharp object, believed to be scissors.
Kangar Police Chief Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop stated that the young victim was immediately taken to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) for further treatment after the initial report was filed.
A swift police operation led to the suspect’s arrest early Tuesday morning, around 1:30 AM, near the Titi Kerbau overpass on Jalan Changlun-Kuala Perlis in Changlun, Kedah. She was reportedly visiting a friend for the Eid festivities at the time of her arrest.
During the operation, police also confiscated a red iPhone 12, a SIM card, and a yellow pair of scissors believed to be the weapon used in the assault. The suspect is currently being held in remand for four days, from April 8 to April 11, as investigations proceed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with child abuse and neglect.
Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the attack and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. Members of the public can assist by contacting the Kangar Police Headquarters at 04-9082340.
This troubling case has sparked concerns and underscores the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children. The swift action taken by the school and police highlights how critical it is to report any signs of abuse immediately.
