11-year-old girl drowns at Tanjung Pahang beach in Kuala Rompin

AN 11-year-old girl is believed to have drowned while at Tanjung Pahang Beach in Kuala Rompin on Saturday afternoon, in a tragic incident that has drawn attention to beach safety and emergency response efforts.

A spokesperson for the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department said the department received an emergency call at 5.45pm alerting authorities to the incident.

“The victim was found by members of the public in an unconscious state and was given respiratory assistance,” the spokesperson said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

Despite the immediate response, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene at 6.45pm, the spokesperson added.

The rescue operation involved seven personnel from the Rompin Fire and Rescue Station, supported by one Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit. - January 11, 2026
