113 refugees moved from KL to NGO-arranged temporary accommodation

ALL 113 refugees who were temporarily placed at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) since Monday night have been moved out of the premises to a location arranged by a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the group left the police headquarters at about 4pm on Tuesday and were transported to a destination determined by the NGO.

“All refugees have moved out of the Kuala Lumpur IPK to the destination arranged by the NGO.

“The process of relocating the refugees, including a one-month-old baby and the oldest refugee aged 60, was carried out by an NGO from Ampang, Selangor,” he said in a brief statement.

Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it was working to secure alternative accommodation for all those involved.

However, no further details were provided regarding the location of the temporary shelter.

Earlier, Fadil said 113 refugees were transferred to the Kuala Lumpur IPK at about 8.50pm on Monday to allow documentation procedures and further action to be carried out in coordination with UNHCR representatives.

Of the total, 110 were Rohingya refugees, while the remaining three comprised an Iraqi man, a Somali woman and an Indonesian woman who is married to a Rohingya refugee.

Fadil said documentation checks found that all Rohingya refugees in the group possessed valid UNHCR documents.

The group had been moved from outside the UNHCR office in Jalan Bukit Petaling after gathering at the location while seeking assistance from the agency. - July 28, 2026
