Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Monday said approximately 116.6 metric tonnes of waste had been collected and removed from Yamuna ghats in the capital.

The announcement came a day after the Delhi Cabinet and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a cleanliness drive along the riverfront.

According to officials, the collected waste was carefully segregated and disposed of in accordance with prescribed environmental norms. General garbage and construction and demolition (C&D) waste were processed through designated channels, while pooja waste and damaged idols were disposed of in an environmentally compliant manner. Green waste, including water hyacinth removed from the river, was transported to designated processing facilities for scientific treatment and disposal.

“Yamuna is not merely a river; it is the cultural, spiritual and emotional lifeline of Delhi. For years, conversations around the Yamuna focused on what was wrong. Today, thousands of Delhiites came together to demonstrate what can be made right when citizens and government work hand in hand,” Singh said.
