KUNAK: More than 12,000 people gathered at the Dataran Boheyan Plaza-AS Centre in Pekan Kunak on Saturday evening for the Justice for Zara Solidarity Assembly, demanding fair investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir.

The crowd dressed in black began arriving around 6pm carrying banners and placards. Some participants also gathered at the nearby Kunak Plaza and Uptown square.

The assembly, jointly organised by AS Centre and the Kunak Community Facebook group, ended at 9.30pm and featured various activities including prayers, Yassin recitations for Zara, religious chants, poetry readings and open sharing of “our voice for Zara” messages.

Chants of “Justice for Zara” echoed throughout the packed venue, while the Justice for Zara song was played through loudspeakers. Police were present to manage traffic and monitor the peaceful proceedings.

AS Centre manager cum event chairman Datuk Sri Anil Sandhu said: “We want justice for Zara. Let us pray together that this case receives proper advocacy,” he said to supportive cheers from participants.”
