The day before the 2023 Budget was presented, the rest of the nation awaited news on whether the Dewan Rakyat would be dissolved to allow for the 15th General Election (GE-15).
Nearly all media outlets covered the dissolution rumours, which also gained popularity on social media. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Prime Minister will meet at Istana Negara on the scheduled date and time.
Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob is rumoured to be asking His Majesty's permission to dissolve Parliament during the weekly briefing session for the Cabinet meeting.
But when Istana Negara announced that evening on Facebook that His Majesty had agreed to meet the Prime Minister for a pre-Cabinet briefing, those hopes were dashed.
The pre-Cabinet meeting, according to the news report, is one of His Majesty's key weekly or regular activities for talking about and exchanging thoughts with the Prime Minister on topics and issues relating to governance.
However, PAS Deputy President, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed that Perikatan Nasional (PN) had submitted a document to Istana Negara signed by 12 ministers from the alliance stating that they would not agree that GE-15 will be held this year. This was before the Prime Minister appeared before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
Some said that Ismail Sabri had been the victim of backstabbing by the 12 ministers. Because it involves the palace, it is also outside the bounds. There is no need to take it all the way to the Istana Negara; it should only be handled at the Cabinet level.
Being incompatible with 12 members of the Cabinet may make it challenging for the Prime Minister to lead the nation and make choices in the future. If this Cabinet stays in place until next year, not only will the political climate of the nation be unpredictable, but it will also be challenging for the Cabinet to make decisions.
