The Panipat police in a joint operation with their Sonepat and Rohtak counterparts, rescued a 12-year-old child of a woman executive engineer who was kidnapped from the Panipat Thermal Power Station (PTPS) colony at Madlauda.

The police rescued the victim, Kabir, within 11 hours after a brief encounter with kidnappers at Kiloi village in Rohtak district. The police nabbed three accused, including a woman. Two miscreants sustained bullet injuries during exchange of fire.

The accused have been identified as Vishal of Kachha camp and Aadesh of Sunder Nagar, PTPS colony, and Sharda of Bharan village.

Sunita, mother of the child, complained to the police that her younger son Kabir, who studies in Class VII, went for a walk on Friday evening but didn’t return. Her husband Samir is a DGM in a public sector firm and posted at Jaipur in Rajasthan.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupender Singh said they received information regarding the kidnapping incident at late night. The accused demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 crore from the family members to set their son free.

The SP said they immediately activated all crime investigation teams and handed over the matter to the CIA-2 team.

It came to the fore that the accused made a ransom call to the family from Uttar Pradesh and again entered Haryana to misguide the police, the SP said, adding that technical analysis and regular monitoring helped them in pinpointing the accused.

With continuous efforts of the Gohana and Rohtak Sadar police, the team successfully gheraoed miscreants near Kiloi village in Rohtak district.

After seeing police personnel, the accused threw Kabir out from the moving car, due to which he sustained minor injuries.

The SP said the accused managed to flee from the spot after ramming their car into a police vehicle and opened fire on the team. In retaliation, police personnel also opened fire on the miscreants, the SP said, adding that two miscreants sustained bullet injuries in their legs while their woman companion was also arrested on the spot.

Inspector Virender, Incharge, CIA-2, said a total of 11 bullets were fired from both sides. Two pistols and two knives were seized from the accused and their car had been impounded, said Virender. “We suspect involvement of some more persons in the kidnapping of Kabir,” the SP added.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Singhal announced Rs 1 lakh reward for the team along with an appreciation letter.
