KOTA KINABALU: A 12-year-old girl who went missing yesterday was found safe and uninjured at a friend’s home in Lorong Seri Pelangi, Inanam, this afternoon.

The student was found at about 3pm today alone and showing no signs of physical harm or health problems.

Acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said preliminary findings indicated that she had left with a friend yesterday.

“She was later accompanied by her mother to the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters to complete follow-up reporting procedures and facilitate further investigations,” he said in a statement tonight.

Police thanked members of the public for their assistance in providing leads and sharing information on the case, while urging them to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from spreading unverified claims or rumours online.

Earlier, the student’s family expressed their gratitude and thanked the authorities and online community for their continued assistance until their daughter was safely brought home.
