Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set new benchmarks in good governance, public welfare and global leadership during the 12 years of the NDA government at the Centre.

Addressing a press conference here, Thakur said PM Modi has emerged as a strong leader who has provided transparent administration and ensured inclusive development. He asserted that the country had witnessed unprecedented progress on economic, social and global fronts during this period, while public trust in governance had steadily strengthened.

Describing the past 12 years as “dedicated to development”, Thakur said the Centre had established a new work culture characterised by corruption-free administration and accountable governance.

He attributed the growing public confidence in the government to its focus on good governance and development-oriented policies.

Thakur said welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Saubhagya Yojana and Jan Dhan Yojana had brought significant improvements in the lives of economically weaker sections.

He further stated that India has emerged as a strong, self-reliant and decisive nation on the global stage. Highlighting Modi’s political journey, Thakur said his extensive experience as both Chief Minister and Prime Minister had played a key role in giving a new direction to the country’s development.

Referring to infrastructure projects in Himachal, the Hamirpur MP said railway projects worth more than Rs 17,000 crore are currently under implementation in the state. He also mentioned the recent launch of the Gurmukhi Express service between Kolkata and Andora, saying it would improve connectivity for passengers travelling to and from Himachal.

Thakur added that the Centre was making sustained efforts to expedite the completion of the long-pending Bilaspur-Bhanupalli railway line project, which is expected to significantly improve rail connectivity in the region.
