Top BJP leaders on Tuesday framed 12 years of Prime minister Narendra Modi’s government as a period that saw the resurgence of pride in ‘Bhartiyata’ (Indian-ness) and one that restored India’s true global standing.

Speaking to reporters on the eve of June 10 when PM Modi will surpass first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as the longest serving PM in the country, BJP president Nitin Nabin said the era of Bharatiyata was here.

“There was a time when we would not take pride in Indian-ness. Prime minister Modi has liberated us from the mindset that didn’t allow us to celebrate Bhartiyata. Today Indian-ness is being celebrated not just at home but also abroad," said Nabin flanked by top ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan. Nabin said Indians had under Modi put symbols of slavery behind them.

“Yoga is a symbol of Bhartiyata so is Ganga Aarti. Namaste has become global diplomatic language," said the BJP chief. He also mentioned Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ campaign as key to unifying India and channelling its energies.

“There was a PM who once said 54 crore people were a liability. Today we see 140 crore people as an asset," Nabin said, citing the Abrogation of article 370 in J&K, eradication of Naxalism and zero tolerance to terrorism as the defining features of the BJP-led NDA dispensation under Modi.

Nabin also said in past 12 years, basic facilities — from toilets to cylinders and health services — that had evaded people for years had been delivered at their doorsteps.
