A total of 122 illegal immigrants were arrested in Kuala Lumpur and Penang during Ops Mahir enforcement raids targeting factories employing foreign workers
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 122 illegal immigrants were nabbed by the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory and Penang Immigration departments during the Ops Mahir integrated enforcement operation.
The raids were part of a nationwide simultaneous enforcement operation focused on premises that employ foreign workers.
In the federal capital, 35 illegal immigrants were arrested by the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Immigration Department under Ops Mahir at a factory area around Cheras today.
The department said the operation began at 10.30 am. Its personnel inspected 43 individuals at the location and detained 35 for various immigration offences.
“All detainees are men aged between 25 and 48, comprising 17 Indian nationals, 10 Bangladeshis, five Indonesians, and three Myanmar nationals,” said a statement from the department.
All detained foreign nationals were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for investigation and further action.
The department also issued three Form 29 notices to Malaysian citizens to assist with the investigation.
In Bukit Mertajam, the Penang Immigration Department arrested 87 foreign nationals for various offences at a factory in Perai today.
A statement on the department’s Facebook page said officers inspected 164 foreign nationals and detained 87 of them, aged 20s to 40s, during the operation that began at 11 am.
The statement said those detained include 71 women and 16 men of Indonesian and Myanmar nationality working at the factory.
The offences identified were failure to produce valid identification documents, breach of pass conditions and overstaying.
All offences are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
