Kota Kinabalu: The 12th Installation Art by the Bay KK 2025 (IAKK2025), featuring 15 upcycled sculptures, will be held on Sept 13-16 at Taman Chong Thien Vun here.

This annual community interactive eco art tourism event themed “Echoes of Sustainability Every Effort Matters” is open to the public from 9am to 6pm daily, said IAKK2025 Art Co-Ordinator Christianne Goonting.

Over 3,000 visitors are expected during the four-day event, with extended reach through online viewings at facebook.com/installationartkk.

“The park will be transformed into a creative showcase of reusable and recyclable materials from scrap metal, polycarbonate sheets, plastic bottles, containers, CDs, and bags to natural garden waste,” she said.

“These striking 3D artworks highlight the urgent need to reduce waste and embrace sustainable practices.”Awareness through art is a powerful tool.

Through these installations, video clips and photographs will also be shared on social media platforms to foster reflection and inspire positive change, she said.

Each artwork delivers a unique message on environmental concerns and sustainability, she added.

“Collectively, they serve as strong visual reminders urging people to make conscious eco-friendly choices in daily life.

“The world faces not only a climate crisis but also the challenges of waste and public health. In response, IAKK2025 seeks to harness creativity as a catalyst for action,” said Christianne.

At its core, the event is committed to advancing environmental awareness. It aims to create meaningful community art experiences, promote eco art tourism as a signature attraction in Sabah, and strengthen local and global connections through an active online art community on Facebook and WhatsApp, she said.

IAKK2025 is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah and Tourism Malaysia Sabah, in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Sabah Cultural Board, Sabah Art Gallery, and the Sabah Tourist Association (STA).

Participants include social groups, schools, colleges, artists, NGOs, tour agencies, as well as international artists from the United Kingdom and Singapore. A team from Denmark will also join via online participation.

IAKK2025 core committee members are Professor Dr Awangku Hassanal Bahar Pengiran Bagul (Universiti Malaysia Sabah), Christianne Goonting (Lavinia Private Art Gallery), Fauziahton Awang Samad (DBKK) and Pauline Chin (Truly Borneo).
