A Standard 6 student died 8 hours after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Kluang, Johor, on Monday (August 4). The 12-year-old victim died at 9pm, while resting at his home in Johor Bahru, due to stomach injuries.

According to a police statement, the Kluang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, shared that the death of the Sekolah Kebangsaan Tiram Duku student was discovered by his father, who then filed a police report at 2am on Tuesday (August 5).

In the report, the student’s father stated that his son was riding a motorcycle when the accident occurred.

“Investigations found that the victim and his family members had gone to his uncle’s house on Jalan Tengah, Paloh, to pay their respects to a deceased person. Upon arriving at the location, the victim lost control of the motorcycle he was riding, skidded and hit a roadside barrier on the right,” Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh explained.

The father refused to take the boy to a hospital

The boy was initially taken to a private clinic by his father, but when the clinic referred them to a hospital, the student’s father took him home instead.

“The victim was referred to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Bahru for further treatment, however, his father refused to send him to HSA and instead, took him home,” he added, according to a report by Berita Harian.

Investigations into this case are still ongoing under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
