KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 130 Umno division leaders pledged their support to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as party president, requesting that he continue his fight for Umno, says Wangsa Maju Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shafei Abdullah.
Shafei was speaking in a press conference on behalf of the present division leaders, where they all expressed their support for Zahid, in response to announcements by other division leaders who demanded the resignation of the party president.
“We have invited the division leaders throughout Malaysia to show our solidarity with our president.
“There was a group that made an announcement asking (Zahid) to resign as if they represent us all,” Shafei said at the party’s headquarters.
“There are a total of 130 division leaders in Malaysia who pledge our support for our president, and we ask him to continue his fight in ensuring that Umno stays relevant now, and in the future,” he added.
Shafie advised the leaders who are apprehensive to return to a united party.
“For the leaders who are still doubtful or concerned, please come back, and let’s unite the whole of Malaysia,” he said.
“We are open (for unity) so that Umno becomes solid and united. We only won 30 seats. If we are not united, then only we will betray us in the future,” he added.
Shafie also took the opportunity to express regret for the discourtesy of other parties in Barisan Nasional (BN).
“I wish to express my regrets for MCA, MIC, and PBRS, who have urged our president to resign in BN when we have carried them for several decades,” he said.
“When we are in a critical situation, they try to ‘berpaling tadah’ (turn their back) on us,” he added.
About 90 division leaders were present during the meeting, while the remaining 40, who could not attend, communicated their support via text. – The Vibes, November 24, 2022
