A 13-year-old student from MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in Pekan has been reported missing after leaving his home, believed to be due to his reluctance to return to the school’s hostel.
According to Kuantan district police chief ACP Wan Zahari Wan Busu, the boy’s mother, aged 41, discovered her son, Anas Baihaqi Miqdad Johari, was missing around 4pm. She last saw him at home around 3.30pm, but when she went to check on him later, he had vanished from his room.
The mother immediately began searching the neighborhood for Anas but was unable to find him. She subsequently lodged a police report, triggering an official search.
Police revealed that Anas had earlier told his mother he did not want to return to the school hostel as he disliked being separated from his family. It is believed that this emotional struggle may have led to his decision to leave home.
Before leaving, Anas took his younger brother’s mobile phone, which remains active, though all calls to it have gone unanswered. He also carried a school bag and approximately RM200 in cash. His last known outfit was a red T-shirt, black track pants, and Puma sneakers.
ACP Wan Zahari urged members of the public who may have seen the boy or have any information about his whereabouts to come forward. “Anyone with details is requested to contact the nearest police station immediately,” he said in a statement.
The incident has sparked concern among the local community and highlights the emotional toll some students may face when living away from home at a young age. School-related anxiety and homesickness are not uncommon among boarding school students, and authorities are expected to look into how such issues are managed within educational institutions.
In the meantime, police efforts to locate Anas are ongoing, and his family continues to hope for his safe return. The public is encouraged to remain alert and supportive in assisting the search.
