14.5K kg of expired meat, food products seized in Valenzuela

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Valenzuela City government, and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) have confiscated a total of 14,541 kilograms of expired meat and other food products during separate operations in the city.

Mayor Wes Gatchalian on Tuesday lauded the efforts of NMIS, NBI, and the City Veterinary Services Office (CVSO) for confiscating the expired imported meat products, including beef, pork and chicken.

During the first operation, the joint teams confiscated 7,600.21 kilograms of expired frozen meat products sold online from Barangay Arkong Bato.

The items were already in NMIS custody and would be properly disposed of through the Bureau of Animal Industry, according to Gatchalian.

A day after, the CVSO-led team seized 6,941.36 kilograms of various food products in Barangay Gen. T. de Leon, which included pork, beef, chicken, french fries, assorted vegetables, duck breast, and various types of seafood.

After a thorough inspection, the items were deemed unfit for human consumption and would be properly disposed of, according to the CVSO.

“We strongly advise the public to purchase meat and other food products only from legitimate and trusted sources,” Gatchalian said.

He said the public may contact the CVSO at 8352-2000 local 2111 for any inquiries, clarifications, or to report suspicious meat products.

“Don’t hesitate to report because the local government will act with dispatch,” the city chief executive said.
