The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max might be the best smartphones Apple’s ever made, but they also happen to be the most expensive. All the more reason to protect it in a case to keep your expensive investment safe.
There are all kinds of cases available for the new models, from both Apple and third-party companies. They include folios that wrap around the front and back of the phone, clear cases so you can show off the colour of your iPhone and slim cases that you barely know are there.
Apple’s sophisticated Camera Control button can be a problem for case makers, many of whom resort to a cut-out to allow access, but others have clever button covers that work with the control. I’ve tested a huge number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max cases to find the best. Unless otherwise stated, all cases are available in versions for both sizes. Below are my top picks.

Nomad traditional leather case
Best: iPhone 18 Pro case overall
Why we love it
- Amazing build quality
- Tactile leather
- Perfect fit
Take note
- Leather patina changes over time
Nomad makes cases (and other accessories like watch straps, charging stations and more) with exceptional build quality – this is a brand I keep coming back to and it has never let me down. The Traditional Leather case wraps the tanned leather right around the edges of the phone, including the raised lip to protect the display.

There are two kinds of leather on offer here: Camino leather costs £55, but the ultra-tactile Horween leather is even better and costs £69. Not only does it feel so inviting you can’t keep your hands off it, it has a natural quality to it (it’s treated minimally, Nomad says) so any markings are unique to it, adding character that changes as it ages. The buttons are made of aluminium, like the iPhone within, and the Camera Control has a glass cover. All work perfectly. I get to try a lot of iPhone cases, as you can see, but the Nomad is almost always the one I stick with.

Smartish Gripmunk clear with MagSafe
Best: budget iPhone 18 Pro case
Why we love it
- Good feel and look
Take note
- No Camera Control cover
Smartish makes a sensational range of neat phone accessories, including screen protectors that are especially easy to apply, cables, phone grips, chargers and cable wranglers. Its series of cases are similarly varied, and the Gripmunk Clear options look classy and fun.

The Check Yourself model has a textured back which feels good to the touch and frosted sides which are seriously hard to let slip through your fingers. It is precisely sculpted to give open access to the Camera Control. Drop protection is only tested to 2 metres but the case feels robust. Pricing varies according to the pattern on the back, ranging from £16 to £20.

Nomad clear leather case
Best: transparent iPhone 18 Pro case
Why we love it
- Strong build quality
- Horween leather is great to the touch
Take note
- Ridged finish on buttons may divide
So you’d like to show off the colour of your iPhone but a basic clear case isn’t quite right? Nomad’s first clear case with a leather panel may suit. The edges are completely clear save for the anodised aluminium buttons and glass Camera Control cover. The volume buttons are smooth but the power and Action button covers are ridged, which not everyone will like.

Nomad says the polycarbonate material resists yellowing over time. The back has a Horween leather panel which hides the MagSafe magnets underneath. And, this being a Nomad case, it’s preposterously tactile. When holding the phone I routinely found my finger straying over the panel to enjoy the touch. Nomad says it can survive a drop for up to 2.5 metres, though it’s no match in protection terms for the Mous Clarity above.

Mous clarity MagSafe clear
Best: iPhone 18 case for high protection
Why we love it
- Exceptional protection
- Stylish design
Take note
- A little chunky
The Mous speciality is great protection levels without excessive bulk, and the Clarity models offer full transparency as well, so you can show off the colour of the iPhone within. The Mous bespoke drop protection material, AiroShock is built into the corners, which are gently raised to protect against accidents. The long edges of the case are flush to the handset so you don’t feel the case when the phone is pressed to your face for calls. The result is a case which is light but highly protective, if a little on the chunky side. Mous has its own camera control cover which works very well.

The rear of the case has the familiar MagSafe magnets that ensure effortless wireless charging. Choose from black or grey frames around the edge. You can also save £5 and get a cleaner look if you choose to eschew the MagSafe magnets.

Apple TechWoven case with MagSafe
Best: Apple iPhone 18 Pro case
Why we love it
- Looks and feels great
Take note
- Colours won’t appeal to everyone
Apple no longer makes leather cases but TechWoven is its premium-finish case, a bespoke material woven from recycled polyester. It has a pleasing textured finish on the back and a different material on the edges that make it easy to grip.

This is an Apple case so it’s no surprise that it’s a perfect fit and that the anodised aluminium buttons work perfectly. I’ve used TechWoven cases before and found them to be resilient and durable, staying good-looking for a long time. The TechWoven case is compatible with Apple’s Crossbody Strap (£59) and Wrist Strap (£29, pictured) accessories. The range of colours is good but none is especially bright, which may not suit everybody.

Zagg luxe snap
Best: soft-finish iPhone 18 Pro case
Why we love it
- Feels great in use
Take note
- Average protection level
The soft-touch Luxe Snap feels great in the hand and looks great in situ (the combination of the purple tinted option and the burgundy iPhone colour is particularly apposite, I’d say, but tastes may vary and there’s always black or clear to suit the colour-conservative). Along with the flexible finish, the edges are ribbed to ensure safe grip in the hand.

The case is thin and light, and while it’s not as high-protection as some cases, Zagg still claims it will survive a drop from 3 metres. It’s also eco-friendly, the company says, because it’s made with up to 97 per cent recycled materials. Zagg also has a ‘free replacements for life’ policy where if it breaks the company will replace it for the life of the phone.

Casetify ultra impact ring stand case
Best: iPhone 18 case for design variety
Why we love it
- Good protection
Take note
- Raised corners not to everybody’s taste
The corners on the Ultra Impact Case from Casetify look like they’ve swollen. Although they don’t get in your way, possibly apart from squeezing the phone into a pocket, they offer bubbles of protection – Casetify says it can survive a drop of 1.2 metres. There’s an even more protected version called the Bounce case which has bigger corners still.

As well as the Ultra Impact there’s a version with a stand which folds out from around the camera panel, making it hard to see when closed. This is useful for standing the phone up for calls or watching content. The range of rear case patterns is almost overwhelming: scores of pages with 48 items per page. Though this is a high-impact case, it is a good balance of slim, manageable design and decent protection.

Apple silicone case with MagSafe
Best: silicone iPhone 18 Pro case
Why we love it
- Great feel
Take note
- Most colours are quite dark
Apple is especially skilful with silicone cases, managing a finish which is smooth and inviting enough to be highly tactile, but still easy to grip. Of course, as it’s made by Apple, the switch and button covers work immaculately. The same goes for the Camera Control which has a sapphire crystal cover.
MagSafe is hidden in the thin case which is lined with microfibre, and there are holes on the corner to work with lanyards such as the Apple wrist and crossbody straps mentioned above. Colours range from the quiet to the unmissable (like the bright Magenta option).

Zagg Milan snap with kickstand
Best: iPhone 18 Pro case for FaceTime
Why we love it
- Useful kickstand
- Good range of finishes
Take note
- Designs will divide users
Zagg makes a wide range of high-quality cases and screen protectors: keeping your phone safe inside is a major theme. The Milan Snap range boasts protection from drops of up to 4 metres and scratch protection.

There’s good grip on the edge of this case, and Zagg has created an integral kickstand which works to prop your iPhone up on its side both in portrait and landscape orientation. There are seven finishes to choose from, ranging from the most transparent (Glitter Silver or Glitter Gold) through dark (Obsidian Drift) to gaudy (Ethereal Essence and Ethereal Wave). It is slim and light but feels well-built and strong.

Smartish wallet slayer vol. 1
Best: iPhone 18 Pro case for a built-in wallet
Why we love it
- Useful card case
Take note
- No Camera Control cover
- Not MagSafe-compatible
The Wallet Slayer has a slot on the back which allows you to slide up to four cards in to it. It also works for cash. There’s a rubbery spring inside to hold them securely and a gap so you can smoothly push them out when you need them. If you’re the kind of person who puts their bus pass into the back of your phone case, this system makes it much more convenient to retrieve.

The internal structure adds strength, though Smartish only claims 2-metre drop protection. The sides and back are rough enough to ensure the phone won’t slide off a smooth surface easily. Note, though, that the wallet design adds a little bulk and, obviously, this case isn’t MagSafe-compatible. For wireless charging you’ll need to remove the Wallet Slayer.

Peak Design everyday loop case
Best: iPhone 18 Pro case with a built-in strap
Why we love it
- Useful finger strap
Take note
- Limited protection on front
There are three ways to attach the Everyday Loop Case to things. First, there’s SlimLink, Peak Design’s own mount system which is magnetic and mechanical. For instance, the bike mount has a spring-loaded element which holds the case, and therefore the phone, securely as you cycle. Second, there’s MagSafe, which works around the SlimLink connector. And third, there’s a finger loop at the base which is enough for one finger and gives you a much more secure grip on the handset – which could bring peace of mind on busy city streets.
The finger grip folds flat magnetically when not being used. Materials include Clarino vegan leather or full-grain leather. My test case has Clarino vegan leather which feels nice to the touch. The buttons are textured and work well. It’s worth noting that there’s less of a protective lip on the front of the phone than on some cases here.

Troubadour modular leather case
Best: iPhone 18 case for versatility
Why we love it
- Works as case and bumper
Take note
- Easy to lose the leather panel
Mujjo accessories are now known as Troubadour, the parent company’s name. But it continues its tradition of making excellent vegetable-tanned leather cases and other items (like a neat AirTag keychain and AirPods case). This case is called modular because the rear panel can be removed. Leave it off and you can see more of the phone beneath, and feel it, so the case becomes more of a bumper, which some people prefer – though the recessed area it leaves could be seen as curious.

The panel pops out easily enough, but the magnets are fine-tuned so the panel stays in place when you take it off a MagSafe charging pad. Oh, and don’t lose the panel when you’ve taken it out. The leather is solid and soft to the touch, while a microfibre lining (Japanese, no less) saves the phone from scratches inside. The machined metal buttons, matching the camera bump on the rear, fit flawlessly. As does the Camera Control which is perfectly colour-matched to the leather.

Zagg rainier snap kickstand
Best: iPhone 18 Pro for medium protection
Why we love it
- Good protection
Take note
- Adds bulk
The chunky Rainier Snap comes in two parts to allow for a stronger level of protection over the rear and the display thanks to large corner bumpers front and back. You certainly know it’s there, but the light weight and transparent back make the case feel manageable. This model has Zagg’s highest level of drop protection, up to 7 metres, which is exceptional. There’s also the Zagg speciality, the kickstand which works so you can watch a video or do a FaceTime call with your hands free.

Despite the thicker edges, Zagg has included its own camera button which is easily accessible. Seven variants to choose from, all with a transparent back, some with edging more colourful (Pop Pink and Wild Green) than others. Though it’s not waterproof, there’s a flap on the bottom to protect the charging socket (and this also contributes to the case’s sturdiness).

Burga tough MagSafe
Best: decorative iPhone 18 Pro case
Why we love it
- Huge range of designs
Take note
- Can be slippery
There are hundreds of designs to choose between, from blocky stripes to cartoon cats, slogans (“May we always have the money to buy the things we screenshot”), graduated colours and images like the leopard in the case pictured (it’s called Antique). The inside of the case is smooth silicone and the exterior is rigid – you can remove the rigid outer while leaving the silicone cover in place. This is something you might do if you’re switching covers, which Burga encourages with its “Buy four, pay for two” offer.

You can also find magnetic power banks and AirPods cases, for instance, in matching patterns. Some cases also come in an Elite version which adds extra protection, a microfibre lining, gold camera panel bezel and shock absorbers in the corners. Note that on the regular Burga Tough the shiny panel reaches round to the sides of the phone which can make it more slippery to the touch. Indeed, literally as I was typing this, my iPhone slid soundlessly off the table and fell on the floor. (The surface was slightly sloping and the phone was fine, but it startled me.)

What is the best iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max case?
It’s hard to beat the sheer build-quality perfection of the Nomad traditional leather case, something that lasts for years without deteriorating, in my experience. The Mous clarity is exceptional for protection levels in a slim, light case and the Zagg Milan snap with kickstand has a genuinely useful extra feature to let you watch content or handle video calls.
