14 jailed for entering State illegally

Kota Kinabalu: Fourteen people were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.

The 14, comprising Indonesians and Filipinos, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain.

AdvertisementThe illegal immigrants were arrested separately in Penampang, Kudat and the city area in January this year after failing to produce their identification documents during an operation carried out by the Immigration Department.

They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, 1959/63 which provides for a jail term of up to five years or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.

Read more During mitigation, all the illegal immigrants asked for leniency and to be repatriated to their hometowns and that the sentence to be served from the date of their arrests.

Meanwhile, two people were jailed for overstaying in the State.

Herianto was jailed six months for staying in the State for seven months after his social visit pass expired on May 29, 2024. He was arrested on Jan 22, this year, in Kudat.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Meanwhile, Ostal was sentenced to 12 months for overstaying for three years as his IMM13 pass had expired on June 26, 2021. He was detained on Jan 22, this year, in Penampang.

All of them were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest.

After completing their jail sentence, they were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
