A bus carrying over 40 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) collided with a Perodua Alza in a freak accident early this morning (June 9).
15 students did not make it
In a journey that started at 9 PM last night (June 8), the bus was headed from Jertih, Terengganu, to Tanjung Malim, Perak, and according to the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) in Hulu Perak, they received a call about the matter around 1:10 AM. APM, firefighters, and PDRM deployed officers to the scene on Jalan Raya Timur Barat in Perak.
In the collision that involved a total of 48 individuals, the bus had overturned, killing 13 on the spot, and the other 2 succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Of that number, 44 people were passengers on the bus, including 42 UPSI students, a driver, and an assistant. Meanwhile, in the Perodua Alza, there were four people, three of whom sustained minor injuries and another suffered a broken arm.
The accident caused the bus and a Perodua Alza coming from the same direction to skid into a ditch.
Some of the victims were thrown from the bus
Additionally, 7 victims are currently undergoing treatment in the red zone, 20 victims in the yellow zone, and another 6 victims in the green zone, as reported by Harian Metro and Astro Awani.
According to the Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, he said that there were victims who were thrown out of the bus.
In an official statement by the Prime Minister this morning, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to the victims and their grieving families. PMX also announced that he had informed the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) to provide aid to the family members of the victims.

In a short statement posted on its Facebook page this morning, UPSI also expressed condolences to the victims of the accident, and remarked,
“UPSI is grieving.”
