15-year deal on Panalaban hostels

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Parks Board of Trustees (LPATTS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with its subsidiary company Sabapark Eco Sdn Bhd (SPESB) for the operations’ hand-over of Hostel Panalaban (Mokodou and Kinotoki) and Hostel Lemaing on Mount Kinabalu, Kinabalu Park.

Previously, the operations of these two hostels were handled by Sabah Parks.

The MoU was signed by LPATTS Deputy Chairman Peter Lintar and SPESB Deputy Chairman Datuk Mohd Yusrie Abdullah, witnessed by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, at the Ministry’s office, here, Thursday.

“The agreement’s duration is 15 years and starts on June 1, this year,” said LPATTS, in a statement, Thursday.

Read more “Through this agreement, SPESB will be responsible for repairing and maintaining infrastructure for public or shared use in the dormitory area.

“Workforce recruitment priority will also be given to Malaysians from the State and reside in the Ranau, Kundasang and Bundu Tuhan to assist in the operational work of the buildings.”

SPESB was established on Dec 18, 2002. Among its main aims is to hold joint venture businesses with investors and private companies in organising development strategies and providing tourism facilities.

Among its roles are to identify suitable sites on Sabah Parks or other areas to be developed as interesting tourism spots and to forge intelligent business partnership with investors and the private sector to develop and manage all tourism facilities and services within the park area and other areas.
