SHARJAH: Extraordinary manuscripts transcribed from the Holy Quran, dating back to 15th and 16th centuries are displayed in the Middle East for the very first time at the 41st Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), the world’s largest book fair.
This includes a rare genealogy featuring the family tree of Prophet Mohammed.
The exhibition is organised by Italy’s ancient Ambrosiana Library and the Catholic University of Sacred Heart.
The exhibits in the SIBF’s main atrium provide visitors once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the gilded pages of these well preserved, embossed books covering topics such as genealogy, geography, history, languages and literature.
Among the works on display is one of the most acclaimed Arabic dictionaries, Firuzabadi’s 14th century manuscript “Al Qamus Al Muhit”.
The exhibit also featured the 17th-century cosmology book Miracles of Existence and Makki bin Abi Talib Al Quaisi’s “Uncovering the Faces of the Seven Readings,” a 13th-century manuscript on the sciences of the Quran. This is the oldest manuscript at the exhibition.
The SIBF 2022, is an exceptional cultural extravaganza which brings together publishers, writers, as well as 1.5 million titles of different genres, in various languages, under one roof.
