Two teenage cousins were reported missing for three days after travelling to Kota Bharu on their own for the first time without any family members accompanying them.

16-year-old Nur Kaseh Nalisya Mohd Ramzul Nazrie and her 15-year-old cousin, Nor Syahzanani, were believed to have left their homes in Kampung Baloh near Kok Lanas on Thursday (18 June) via an e-hailing service before heading to a shopping mall.

Details of the disappearance

According to BERNAMA, Nur Kaseh’s mother said her daughter called her at about 9 PM that night and told her she would be home soon.

However, after the call, both her daughter’s and her cousin’s phones became unreachable despite repeated attempts by family members to contact them. Concerned for their safety, the families lodged separate police reports at the Kota Bharu District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 10 AM the following day (19 June).

The mother also shared that the two girls, whose homes are located near each other, had left without their MyKad or wallets as they only relied on their phones to pay for the e-hailing fare.

Five suspects arrested in connection with the case

In a recent development, Berita Harian reported that the two cousins were safely rescued on Saturday (20 June) and were found at a homestay in Machang, about 25 kilometres from their homes.

According to Machang District Police Chief Superintendent Azuhar Md Nor, police have arrested five local men to assist in investigations into the disappearance of the two girls.

He added that remand orders have been obtained for all five suspects, who are in their late teens to 20s, following their arrest, as reported by BERNAMA.
