164 bitcoin mining servers seized in Sabak Bernam raid over alleged power theft

AUTHORITIES have seized 164 servers after uncovering suspected illegal Bitcoin mining operations at four premises in two locations across the Sabak Bernam district.

The raid was conducted by the Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) Enforcement Department and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) from 5pm yesterday until midnight.

MDSB said the operation was led by its deputy president and involved 11 enforcement officers, nine TNB technical officers and 15 technical personnel.

"Four premises were inspected in Sungai Besar and Sabak Bernam town. As a result, 164 servers were seized," it said in a statement today.

The premises were suspected of being used to conduct illegal Bitcoin mining while also stealing electricity, the council said.

The operation formed part of enforcement efforts to curb energy-related offences and unlicensed digital investment activities.

MDSB said stern action would be taken against premises found to be involved in illegal cryptocurrency mining and electricity theft.

It also urged members of the public to report suspicious premises believed to be involved in activities that violate the law.

The seizure highlights continuing enforcement concerns surrounding illegal cryptocurrency mining, which can involve substantial electricity consumption and unauthorised connections to the national power supply. - August 8, 2026
