A Malaysian teenager has been sentenced to life in prison in the UK for a brutal hammer attack on his dormmates at a boarding school.
Thomas Wei Huang, 17, attacked two boys while they were sleeping at Blundell’s School in Devon last year.
Both victims suffered serious injuries, including skull fractures, broken ribs, and internal bleeding. One of them had a punctured lung.
When a teacher, tried to step in, Wei Huang struck him over the head multiple times. The teacher recalled being dazed and stumbling into the hallway.
Another student, hearing the commotion, called the police.
Wei Huang later claimed he was sleepwalking, but the court found that he had a disturbing obsession with hammers and violent fantasies.
He even kept hammers by his bed, reportedly for a “zombie apocalypse.”
Charged with attempted murder, Wei Huang pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. However, the court ruled that his attack was premeditated.
Judge Justice Cutts said that Wei Huang posed a “significant risk” to others and sentenced him to life in prison, with a minimum of 12 years to be served before any chance of release.
