An 18-year-old man has been arrested for the brutal murder of his pregnant 19-year-old girlfriend, whose body was discovered near a paddy field in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The tragic incident has shocked the local community, shedding light on a horrifying act of violence.

According to local police, the suspect, identified as Muh Jibril, fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Putri Indah Sari Nurcahyani, a staggering 79 times. The incident reportedly stemmed from a heated reaction to a meeting between the victim's family and the suspect's family just a day prior. During the meeting, the victim's family urged the suspect to take responsibility for the victim's pregnancy.

Gowa Police Chief AKBP Reonald Simanjutak stated that the murder took place in Desa Bontocinde, located in the Pailangga subdistrict of Gowa, on January 21. The victim, described as five months pregnant, was subjected to relentless violence, with stab wounds concentrated on her thighs, stomach, and buttocks.

The victim's body was found by a local resident who had been jogging near the area. The individual noticed a motorcycle lying on the ground and decided to inspect the scene. Upon discovering the victim's body, he immediately returned home to retrieve his smartphone and reported the matter to the police.

Authorities promptly arrived at the scene and transported the victim's body to Bhayangkara Makassar Hospital for an autopsy. Evidence collected at the scene confirmed the brutal nature of the crime.

Police arrested the suspect at Bahari Beach in the Bangkala subdistrict of Jeneponto. While the murder weapon has not yet been recovered, authorities believe it was discarded in Takalar district.

If convicted, the suspect faces severe penalties under Indonesian law, which include the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison term of up to 20 years.
