180 Civil Defence staff from nine states mobilised to Johor: Armizan

BACHOK – A total of 180 Civil Defence Force personnel from nine states have been mobilised to Johor since the floods there began in February.

The states involved are Perak, Terengganu, Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Penang, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, and Pahang.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said personnel from each state had been placed in three districts: Batu Pahat, Segamat, and Muar.

“As the flood situation in Johor is quite serious, the Civil Defence Force has also provided assistance in terms of assets and logistics to help the victims.

“Among them are six lorries, 12 four-wheel drives, and 14 boats,” he told reporters after the 13th national-level commissioning ceremony of the Student Civil Defence Corps (Sispa Corps) at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan’s Bachok Campus here today.

A total of 902 cadet officers from the Sispa Corps at higher education institutions and teacher education institutions throughout the country were commissioned with the rank of Civil Defence Leftenant Junior.

“The involvement of youths in (higher education institutions and teacher education institutions) throughout the country through the Sispa Corps is one of the key components for the Civil Defence Force to involve members of the public as volunteers at the national, state, and district levels to act as trained first responders during disasters and emergencies,” said Armizan. – Bernama, March 5, 2023
