KOTA KINABALU – A total of 187 people from 51 families have been evacuated due to floods in Nabawan following heavy rain since yesterday.

The Sabah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said in a statement today that they were moved to a relief centre at SIB Salarom Baru Church at 12.30am.

Nabawan is a small town located in the interior division of Sabah, about 195km south of Kota Kinabalu.

Meanwhile, the Public Works Department said only one road, Jalan Pamuntarian-Kabu Baru in Nabawan, is impassable after being inundated by floods and no alternative road can be used for the time being.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning, forecasting thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Sabah’s West Coast, especially Kota Belud and Kudat until 9am. – Bernama, April 1, 2023
