Red entries have also been made on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal and these 19 farmers will not be able to sell their produce in the grain markets for two years.

Tightening the noose around the farmers, who burnt crop residue, the district administration is getting FIRs registered against 19 farmers in Kurukshetra.

Besides this, red entries have also been made on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal and these 19 farmers will not be able to sell their produce in the grain markets for two years.

According to the information, 49 cases of farm fires were reported in the district of which no farm-fire incidents were found in 20 reported locations, while fire was reported in garbage on one location. In nine other locations, the farmers had alerted the police and other officials concerned about the fire and also made attempts to control the fire, while on 19 locations, it was confirmed that the stubble was set ablaze by the farmers themselves. They failed to explain the reason behind the fire in their respective agricultural fields.

An official in the Agriculture Department said the district administration and the Agriculture Department had organised several programmes to control the incidents of crop residue burning and motivate the farmers to adopt residue management. As part of the efforts, village-level committees were formed and awareness programmes were organised for the farmers at the village level.

Through these programmes, the farmers were also made aware of the ill-effects of farm fires. They were also apprised about the action taken against those who burn crop residue. Nodal officers were appointed at the block level and subdivision-level teams were formed to control incidents of farm fires, the official said.

Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena, who chaired a review meeting with the Agriculture Department officials last evening regarding action plans to eliminate stubble burning, said that directions had been given to the officials of the Agriculture Department and the other officials concerned to visit the agricultural fields on a regular basis.

DC Vishram Kumar Meena said, “Despite constant efforts made and awareness programmes to motivate farmers, 19 farm fires have been confirmed in the district so far. Complaints have been moved to the police stations concerned for the registration of FIRs against 19 farmers who set fire to crop residue after wheat harvesting in various parts of the district. Red entries have been registered on the “Meri Fasal Mera Byora” portal, preventing them from selling their crops for two years. The farmers are appealed not to burn the residue, else strict action will be taken.”
