At least 19 passengers were injured after a private bus overturned near Bhawana Chowk in the Sundernagar subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Monday afternoon. The accident triggered panic among passengers and prompted an immediate rescue operation by local residents and emergency responders.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was travelling on its scheduled route when it suddenly lost balance near Bhawana Chowk and overturned. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but the incident caused chaos as passengers cried for help while several remained trapped inside the vehicle.
Local residents rushed to the scene and immediately began rescuing passengers before police and emergency services arrived. Soon after receiving information about the accident, police personnel, administrative officials and ambulance teams reached the spot and launched relief and rescue operations.
All injured passengers were shifted to Sundernagar Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that the injured are receiving necessary care, while officials continue to monitor their condition. No fatalities have been reported so far.
Preliminary findings suggest that technical failure or road conditions could have contributed to the bus losing control, although all possible angles are being examined.
The accident also disrupted traffic on the route for some time before authorities restored normal movement. Following the incident, local residents urged the administration to strengthen road safety measures and improve traffic management on the stretch to prevent similar accidents in the future. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
