MERSING: Two teenage motorcyclists were killed in separate accidents in Mersing, Johor, and Cyberjaya, Selangor, including a 19-year-old whose body was recovered from Sungai Sekakap here this morning.

In the Mersing incident, the teenager was believed to have skidded off the road and fallen into the river last night, prompting an overnight search and rescue operation.

Mersing Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Alias Hussin said they received an emergency call at 11.26 pm and deployed 15 personnel from the Mersing and Skudai fire stations.

The rescue team, equipped with a Light Fire Rescue Tender, an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, a boat and two utility vehicles, arrived at the scene at 11.36 pm.

Mohd Alias said firefighters initially searched along the riverbank before requesting assistance from the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) based at the Skudai fire station.

“The victim was found by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) at 7.55 am today, about 100 metres from where he was last seen. His body was handed over to the police before being taken to Mersing Hospital for further action,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, in Cyberjaya, a 16-year-old private school student was killed after his motorcycle reportedly went out of control and skidded along Jalan CV 4, Cyber Valley, yesterday.

Sepang district police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said the teenager was travelling home from an international school at about 6.30 pm when the accident occurred.

“He suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Cyberjaya Hospital,” he said in a statement today.

Norhizam said police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Amira Abu Hassan at 019-6026596 or 03-87774264, or visit the nearest police station.
